WOAH endorses rabies control strategies in Malawi, Saudi Arabia and Zimbabwe

By: United Against Rabies Forum

Description

The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has endorsed the official control programmes for dog-mediated rabies in Malawi, Saudi Arabia and Zimbabwe, marking further progress towards the global goal of eliminating human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030.

WOAH endorsement recognises that a national rabies control programme has been assessed against WOAH international standards and demonstrates a clear, country-led strategy for rabies control and elimination. The process supports countries in strengthening governance, coordination and long-term implementation of rabies control activities.

The endorsement of programmes in Malawi, Saudi Arabia and Zimbabwe reflects growing international momentum to scale up rabies prevention and control efforts through strengthened Veterinary Services, multisectoral collaboration and sustainable vaccination strategies.

WOAH continues to support Members through technical guidance, international standards, capacity building and mechanisms such as the rabies vaccine bank.

Countries interested in learning more about the endorsement process can visit WOAH official disease status and endorsement programmes or contact WOAH for further information.
