India is endemic for rabies and is estimated to suffer some 36% of the world’s human rabies deaths. On World Rabies Day 2021, India launched a National Action Plan for dog Mediated Rabies Elimination (NAPRE) by 2030, with rabies now declared a notifiable disease.
The government of India has pledged to make rabies control a priority, building awareness and commitments from relevant sectors and setting into practice the operationalization of One Health.
